I’ve had enough of the AI doomerism, enough of the assumptions that AI will replace us all, enough giving up and assuming we need UBI… enough conceding our place in society to AI. There isn’t going to be a cap on human abilities. We’re going to augment our prefrontal cortexes w/ chips that have onboard LLMs. We’re going to incorporate machine intelligence into ourselves, not the other way around. We’re going to continue expanding our ambitions. We’re going to set our sights higher and higher to more and more ambitious goals among the stars. If there are people who are being left behind, we’ll give them the opportunity for a prefrontal cortex upgrade. Exocortexes and gene therapies and brain-machine-interconnects will serve as a suite of human cognition augmentations that will allow everyone to contribute at higher levels where before they might not have had quite the same contribution. There are way too many assumptions in “ai will wholesale replace human intelligence” and honestly I think it is partly due to a lack of imagination in how many other technologies will play out, combined with a pseudo-religious or even wholly religious view of ai. Long live humanity. And long live the humanity-AI alliance.
